Our Fleurie wines

Fleurie Wine

Fleurie is a registered designation of origin (appellation d’origine contrôlée). It includes 850 hectares of vines. Certain areas (micro-environments) are ideal for yielding wines of superior quality. The best known is La Madone, a hillside from whose summit a little chapel overlooks the village and symbolises the wines of Fleurie.

150 wine-makers share the lands of this Beaujolais wine, which fuses the beauty of the area with the richness of its wines. Grown on hillsides in a granite soil, its seductive appeal lies in its aroma, its delicacy and its feminine fragrances.

Our Fleurie Vintage

Traditional Fleurie

Fleurie Madone tradition

The traditional vintage constitutes the majority of what we produce. Vinified using the whole grape, and fermented over a period of 7-8 days, it encapsulates all the qualities one would expect from a Fleurie wine. It tastes smooth, and lusciously fruity, with subtle but nevertheless tangible tannins. It can be drunk young, but also improves with age. We recommend the wine be consumed within 2-4 years.

Fleurie oak cask prestige vintage

Oak tank prestige

We have chosen our oldest vines, between 70 and 100 years old, to make this wine. At this age the vines produce fewer, smaller grapes. After a traditional fermentation process, the wine which emerges is more concentrated and intense. This wine is consequently to be laid down, and will enchant you with its subtlety and the purity of its fruit flavours. The old vines have long roots which plunge deep into the granite earth, so the marvellous soil of La Madone imbues this vintage with its own unique character and ensures consistent  quality every year.

Fleurie Grille Midi vieilles vignes (“old vines”)

Midi Grid old vines

Grille Midi is another micro-environment from the Fleurie area. A granite amphitheatre bathed in sunshine, it is also thought of as one of the best. We believe that the name derives from the intense heat the area gets at midday. Our Grille Midi vintage is made from 60 year old vines. Every year they bestow on the wine fragrances of ripe fruit and spices, with a grilled or toasted character. It can easily be kept 5 or 6 years, as it is a well-balanced and structured wine.

Fleurie oak casks

Madone old vines

This vintage is fermented for twelve months in oak barrels. We use oak which is between 2 and 4 years old in order to obtain a perfect flavour balance between wood and fruit. After the initial twelve months, the wine is then stored for 6 months in vats in order to blend the flavours. What emerges is a powerful, rounded wine which is the perfect accompaniment to the most mouth-watering dishes.

Fleurie Domaine du Niagara

Fleurie Niagara Estate

This is a very different Fleurie. Robust and full-bodied, we recommend that it be kept a year or two in order to fully reveal its intense flavours of  blackcurrants and wild blackberries. We are proud to present this new vintage which will undoubtedly retain its high quality in years to come.
